Texas property owners should protest annually since The appraisal district uses inaccurate data, factors and an inaccurate model to estimate values. Half are too high and half too low; very few are just right. Even if you are under-valued on market value, you can appeal on unequal appraisal.
TAD Property Tax Reduction from Judicial Appeals
The result of the legal process in 2024 was a strong tax savings of $153.49 million. This was the highest total ever seen in the county, easily doubling the previous record of 2020. The results for judicial appeals in Tarrant County have been on a hot streak since 2020, and it looks to continue as more make their way through the courts. This is also part of a rising tide of property tax protests in general in the Fort Worth area, one that is growing faster every year.
As mentioned above, it should be no surprise that commercial properties were the clear winners in 2024. $151.25 million in taxes were saved by these businesses alone, making them the obvious drivers of the suits. Even in years where multi family properties were ascendant, commercial ventures still made up the majority of tax savings. This reflects the value of the county’s businesses and their related property and is a strong economic indicator going forward.
